A typical Chain for one song contains about 10 Chains within that for splits and samples laid out on the kbd with individual effects for the various parts. My CPU hovers between 10% at rest to about 50% with full-on thrashing. This "sound module" set has no Scenes at all, no Clips at all, there's only as much activity going on as two hands can physically play at any one time. I select songs from my ReMote61 by having the Chain Selector mapped to MIDI CC27, and each of the ReMote61's 24 programmable buttons sending a set value of CC27 when pressed. Each chain contains Racks, and Racks within Racks etc, to allow for lots of splits and layers. I use live for playing live keys in a band (no clip or sequences - just as a "sound module") I have a single Instrument track containing one Rack, inside that: one Rack Chain per song.

You could possibly have multiple tracks/racks responding to the one incoming chain-select message.? Depends on the inherent complexity of your Sets, of course. Soft synths can be loaded / unloaded or I can simply change the patch on them. In MainStage, I can press a MIDI pedal and switch all these configurations at once without touching a mouse or keyboard. New FX, new soft synths, new audio channels added / removed, new samples to be used etc.

In general when we move from one song to the next the configuration for my software always changes dramatically. In my band I have a lot of responsibilities: vox, bass, electronics / processing. I love the s*** out of Live.īut it hasn't been the best in terms of my personal usage in live performance when compared to MainStage. I've been using Live since version 1 and have written software to help maximize my usage of it.
